Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Uladzimir Makei recently met with Wolfram Maas, the German ambassador to Belarus, to discuss cooperation in humanitarian, trade and politics.
The two sides also talked about Belarus-EU relations as well as regional and international affairs, according to a press release from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Germany was one of the first countries to recognize Belarus' independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union, with the two sides signing an agreement on diplomatic relations in March 1992. The first Belarusian ambassador to Germany began work in 1993.
There are now approximately 30 intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements in place between the two countries.

Germany is one of Belarus' leading trade partners, with bilateral trade reaching a record $4.5 billion in 2012. Germany is also a major source of foreign direct investment.
