Gas supplies from Western Europe to Ukraine up 170 million cubic meters

Reverse gas supplies from Western Europe to Ukraine reached approximately 315.8 million cubic meters in June, up from 170 million cubic meters in May, according to a recent report from Hungarian and Polish gas transport systems operators.

Reverse gas flows from Poland reached 116.122 million cubic meters in June, 127.533 million cubic meters in May and 67.831 million cubic meters in April, which reverse flows from Hungary were 199.725 million cubic meters in June and 42.316 million cubic meters in May, ITAR-TASS reports.

Supplies from Poland began on April 15, while Hungary's flows were initiated on May 20.

According to Poland's natural gas transmission system operator Gaz-System, no more than 1.5 billion cubic meters per year will be supplied to Ukraine, which the maximum amount of reserve gas flows from Hungary may be as high as five billion cubic meters, according to ITAR-TASS.

Natural gas in reverse flows have been sent to Ukraine since November 1, 2012, with the gas supplied across the border with Poland under a contract from Germany's RWE.

Ukraine consumed approximately 50 billion cubic meters of gas in 2013.
