BTC pipeline delivered more than 28 million tons of oil in 2014

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Pipeline delivered nearly 2.5 million tons of oil in December,  bringing the total transferred to more than 28.5 million tons in 2014, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) reported recently.

The pipeline, which encompasses 1,099 miles, runs from Azerbaijan to Georgia and finally to Turkey. It has played an important role in the region since it was completed in 2005.

At a November 2014 summit in Istanbul, Turkey, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden praised the pipeline as a means for energy production and distribution for the region. Biden noted that at one time many thought that such a pipeline could not exist, but its continued success has made it a crucial energy supply line for the countries it runs through.

To date, the pipeline has transported more than 263 million tons to its end point in Ceyhan, Turkey, SOCAR reported. Part of the recent success and growth in Azerbaijan can be attributed to its participation in the BTC pipeline.
