Gazprom opens southern Kyrgyzstan gas supply

The suspension of gas supply to Kyrgyzstan was lifted on Tuesday as supply from Gazprom restarted its service to the country's southern region, the Eurasian Development Bank announced.

Company representatives explained that in April the company purchased Kyrgyzgaz, the primary supplier in the country. Uzbekistan responded to by suspending their service to the region.

“Under the contract, natural gas supplies to the region were restarted on Tuesday. Supplies will amount to up to 100 million cubic meters. Tariffs for natural gas in the region will remain the same as in the northern part of the country,” company representatives said.

On Dec. 23 the Kyrgyz parliament stated that it is considering a bill that would exclude Gazprom from import duty requirements due to the fact that the gas supplied by the company is produced within Kyrgyzstan. Because it is indirectly supplied there will still be a 35 percent export duty attributed to it.
