During a session on economic matters on Wednesday, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said economic stability is the government's top priority.
At the session, he instructed top business executives to provide updates and monitor what is happening on the macroeconomic level to detect any areas of concern, one of which is the rising cost of consumer goods.
“The commodities you export can be sold at the highest price possible; however, prices on the domestic market are already high enough," Lukashenko said. "Our people no longer take products out of the country, but go to Russia and Ukraine to purchase goods, including Belarusian goods, and bring them back to Belarus. The government undertook the obligation to deal with the situation. I would like to hear how the issue is being addressed."
The matter of lifting restrictions on food exports to Russia and the diversification of exports were also major discussion points at this session. He had no qualms about what domestic manufacturers are doing in terms of production quality and pricing; his concern is to find out how to better sell Belarusian goods abroad.
