Lithuanian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Valdas Lastauskas was accredited in his role as ambassador to Turkmenistan during his visit to the country on Dec. 10.

Lastauskas was briefed on the state's foreign policy and endeavors to increase fruitful economic relations with countries and international organizations. Turkmenistan's leaders emphasized the pursuit of reforms in social and economic spheres. He was also informed of what the Tukmenistan president's duties were in the governmental structure.

Lastauskas wasted no time and stated that Lithuania was more than willing to begin dialogue that would facilitate improved relations between the two nations.

The newly accredited diplomat took part in an international conference, the Neutrality of Turkmenistan: the Strategy of Peace, Security and Sustainable Development, which celebrated the 18th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality. The conference was hosted by Turkmenistan's Ministry of Foreign Relations and its Democratic Party. Attendees included high ranking officials, diplomats and representatives from educational institutions.
