During Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov's visit to Kazakhstan to meet with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev, the two heads of state discussed how to improve relations between the two nations, with both expressing a desire for a stronger partnership.
On the discussion table were how to improve trade relations and other economic initiatives, as well as how to create more economic stability in the region. With the current global economic climate shaky at best, the two agree that more could and should be done bilaterally to secure economic security in the region.
They also discussed the situation in Afghanistan, agreeing that peace in that country and the region as a whole is a priority to stabilize the region, and that action to curb violence on the part of both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan should be taken.
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan trade is already an important bilateral relationship in the region, and Uzbekistan ranks Kazakhstan as one of its best and more fruitful trade partners. The two leaders agreed that the next logical step would be to strengthen economic ties.
