Armenian government to restructure itself in streamline effort

Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan announced plans to restructure the government, among other issues in a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday.

He proposes that the Ministry of Emergency Situations be replaced with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and wants to create the Ministry of International Economic Integration and Reforms. These changes aim to streamline management and to make the government as efficient as it can possibly be. To this end, legislation has been approved to make these changes.

The next item referred to the country being at the bottom of global rankings in population growth.

"I am extremely anxious about the social environment, which makes us lose thousands of future mothers. I am hereby instructing the Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs and Healthcare to develop and submit by March 2015 a comprehensive plan to improve the situation," Abrahamyan said.
