The U.S.-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday that Turkey’s premier defense company, ASELSAN, may expand into Azerbaijan.

ASELSAN already is working with the country’s military and is the supplier of its electro-optic and radar systems. Thermal sights would be produced in Azerbaijan as well, according to a protocol of intent that was signed in September between the company and the Ministry of Defense’s (MDI) Avlov plant. They have teamed up with the ministry for the joint production of new communication systems.

“The TASMUS (Tactical Area Communication Systems) system that we offer to Azerbaijan will provide continuous and reliable communication services between all forces. The forces will be able to use reliable digital communications; command-and-control management functions will be provided. Moreover, benefits will be available in terms of ensuring compliance between Azerbaijani and Turkish armed forces. The second field that we can offer to Azerbaijan is radar and electronic systems,” Hasan Canpolat, chairman of the board at ASELSAN, said.
