GOVERNMENT OF BELARUS: Lukashenko: Time to demonstrate our ability to solve problems in two pre-election years

Government of Belarus issued the following announcement on Feb. 12.

In the two years before the elections it is necessary to demonstrate the ability to solve problems to the nation. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he appointed aides to the president and authorized the appointment of heads of a number of local executive and administrative bodies on 12 February, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that the newly appointed officials will have in full measure to tackle similar complicated tasks he had talked about before. “We have two years before the elections to show people our ability to solve problems. We will have to take an exam this year and the next one. I also always talk about it in the run-up to such events. Don’t be afraid that we will indeed have to take the exam. We are going to seriously prepare for it. And we are going to demonstrate our competence to manage the country to the people,” the president stressed.

The head of state spoke at length about the economic matters the new president’s aides and heads of district administrations will also have to take care of. “They want to make us scared of various dangers. But economy is always the key fundamental problem in any country. If the economy is fine, people will be fine, primarily their families,” Alexander Lukashenko said. He noted that economy is a number one matter for everyone – from the head of state to the head of the smallest administrative unit.

Speaking about the sociological aspect, Alexander Lukashenko noted that a lot had been done in Belarus to ensure people can live a normal life. “It is necessary to continue working on it starting with agrotowns and ending with the hero city of Minsk. The president has assigned tasks to everyone. Everyone has been told where and what things should be built, how streets should be beautified, where and what trees should be planted and so on,” the head of state said.

Vitaly Prima is now an aide to the Belarus president and an inspector for Minsk. Alexander Lukashenko told him that the capital city has its fair share of problems. He said he wanted the new inspector to take a clear and unprejudiced look at Minsk, primarily the human resources, and identify the problems, which need to be addressed. The forthcoming 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 and the Europe vs United States athletics match were described as kind of an exam the city will have to take.

Sergei Fedchenko is the new chairman of the Novogrudok District Executive Committee. The head of state told him to pay close attention to the production sector. “Novogrudok is a very important region both from the historical point of view and the economic one,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed. He said he was confident that the new head of the Novogrudok District administration will be able to easily get to grips with the problems of the district.

The appointment of Viktor Rebkovets as the chairman of the Klichev District Executive Committee was authorized earlier today. Alexander Lukashenko promised he will visit Klichev one day and said the region is not a simple one. “We will meet this year and will see what you’ve accomplished, what you can do, and what things you may need help with,” the head of state said.

In conclusion Alexander Lukashenko noted that a great deal of work will have to be done. He urged the newly appointed officials to work like men. He once again drew attention to matters of discipline and order in their relevant territories.
