Belarusian central bank head meets with Austrian, IMF bank officials

Nadezhda Ermakova, the chairman of Belarus' central bank, met with National Bank of Austria Governor Ewald Nowotny last week and IMF Executive Director Johann Prader earlier this week during a working visit to Vienna.

The three parties discussed the social and economic development of Belarus and Austria, focusing on monetary management measures taken to alleviate the impact of the global financial crisis on the two countries, BelTA reports.

While in Vienna, Ermakova also delivered a report about the state of the Belarusian economy to students in an applied economic policy course at the Joint Vienna Institute (JVI), and JVI Director Norbert Funke said he was confident about future expansion between the two countries.

Before leaving Austria, Yermakova invited Nowotny to come to Belarus on a reciprocal visit, according to BelTA.
