Uzbek President Karimov receives U.N. agriculture officials

Uzbek President Islam Karimov received Jose Graziano da Silva, the director general of the U.N.'s Food and Agricultural Organization, on Friday.

Karimov said Uzbekistan regards the FAO as the leading international institution dealing with policies and programs related to food security and agricultural development. Since Uzbekistan joined FAO in 2001, the organization has has helped to implement eight national and regional projects in the country, according to the government website.

During Friday's meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues, including food supplies, agricultural development and new methodologies in farming.

Da Silva reiterated the FAO's willingness to foster further relations with Uzbekistan.
