The number of eco-tourists in Belarus jumped 22 percent in 2013 over 2012, with most of the vacationers coming from different parts of the country as well as Russia, Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania.
The increase is due largely to the government's decree in 2011 that rural tourism estates to rent as many as 10 rooms, citing Vadim Karmazin, the director of the tourism department of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry, BelTA reports.
"An important role in promoting rural tourism is attributed to the use of modern technologies in advertising, which gave potential customers an opportunity to get all the necessary information from the Internet," Karmazin said, according to BelTA.
Most of the 482 rural tourism estates are located in Minsk region, followed by Vitebsk, Gomel, Brest, Grodno and Mogilev.
The international business forum on rural tourism was organized as part of an international technical assistance program, BelTA reports.
