MegaFon launches new SMS service for financial institutions

MegaFon, the second largest mobile phone operator and the fourth largest telecom operator in Russia, is launching a new SMS service for credit institutions.

Until Jan. 31, institutions can send an unlimited number of SMS messages at a set rate to clients who are MegaFon subscribers.

To enroll for the service, representative of credit institutiosn must enter into a direct contract for the provision of telecommunications services with MegaFon.

MegaFon company changed its name from North-West GSM to MegaFon in 2002 when it acquired several regional companies, becoming the first GSM company in Russia to cover the entire territory.

Headquartered in Moscow, the company serves more than 62 million subscribers in Russia and 1.6 million in Tajikistan, Ossetia and Abkhazia.

MegaFon works in the GSM and UMTS standard. Its main competitors are VimpelCom and Mobile TeleSystems.
