Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Taner Yildiz.

Trans-Anatolian pipeline construction will begin Tuesday, according to a report from the U.S.–Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce.

The pipeline will annually deliver approximately 16 billion cubic meters of gas from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan to the Georgian-Turkish border, through Turkey and to the west. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said this pipeline is one of the country's and region's most important.

The pipeline is expected to deliver 6 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Turkey beginning in 2018, with the surplus available in other regions of Europe by 2020.

The project cost is estimated between $10 billion and $11 billion.
