Olshevsky dismisses quality complaints on Belarusian products

Eurasian Engineering Company chairman of the board and director general of Rosbelmarketingtsentr Alexander Olshevsky said Wednesday that complaints made by Russian companies about the quality of Belarus products are not justified.

Specifically, Olshevsky's statement referred to allegations that food items including sausages and cheeses did not meet Russian standards.

“It is understandable that if we use Russian standards or standards set by the international community as a (measuring) stick, then we will not be able to find a product that matches them completely,” Olshevsky said.

Olsehevsky suggested the complaints have arisen as Russian businesses take note of the increasing number of Belarusian products in their market, and said the claims being made to limit or devalue products made in Belarus are unfounded. He said any immediate concerns about product quality will be easily remedied.

"Belarusian products have the competitive advantage of quality, manufacturing process control and raw materials from the start," Olshevsky said.

He expects Belarus to continue to export a variety of products to Russia.

"Consumers and government agencies are interested in Belarusian products," Olshevsky said. "All the possible conditions for this trade to continue have been enabled.”
