The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) released information on Thursday about Wednesday's meeting between the bank's governor, Valeriia Gontareva, and U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew.
Both sides discussed the country's economic health, as well as indicators of projected stabilization. Gontareva and Lew also discussed potential cooperation between both countries.
"Despite pessimistic forecasts, we hope that the conflict in eastern Ukraine will be resolved, the situation will get back on track and the economy will stabilize," Gontareva said. She briefed the treasury secretary on the plans and initiatives that the NBU aims to put into place to stabilize the banking sector and Ukraine's macroeconomic condition.
Lew expressed hope on behalf of the U.S. Treasury Department that the proposed initiatives will lead to a successful recovery.
Gontareva expressed gratitude for loan guarantees from the U.S., which had been approved for up to $2 billion.
