Samarkand reports solid GDP, growth in several sectors

During a videoconference with government officials on Friday, Zoir Mirzaev, governor of Uzbekistan's Samarkand region, reported on the region's 2014 economic performance and outlined its priorities for the new year.

In 2014, measures were implemented by the government at the request of Uzbekistan's president, Islam Karimov. A Republic of Uzbekistan report said there was steady economic growth in the region. The gross domestic product in the region grew 10.5 percent in 2014. Significant growth was seen in specific sectors within the economy, including retail, agriculture, construction and professional services.

For 2015, the discussions focused on how expanding measures that were put into place would be necessary to modernize the country's economy and the industries that operate within it. Enhancements in this regard would include introducing communication and information technology throughout the country and region, and strengthening production within the region.
