Valeriia Gontareva, governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), spoke at the Verkhovna Rada meeting last week to address the challenges that the NBU -- and the banking sector in general -- face.
During the Supreme Council meeting, Gontareva and legislators discussed banking-sector issues, including monetary policy and foreign-exchange developments. Gontareva also talked about the NBU's plan to restore the nation's confidence in the nation's banks and overall financial system. She also said that she is prepared to disclose publicly every regulatory decision she makes and expressed a willingness to cooperate with the council to stabilize the banking system.
In a speech that Gontareva gave to the council, she presented an overview of the main factors in the current financial crisis, including the conflicts concerning the Crimea annexation and Donbas. She also said the NBU and the government would need to finds solutions together.
