World Bank Country Manager for Tajikistan Patricia Veevers-Carter visited an agriculture project site in the Khalton Province on Wednesday.

Veevers-Carter and a delegation from the Tajikistan government met with beneficiaries and partners of the Second Tajikistan Public Employment for Sustainable Agriculture and Water Resources Management Project (PAMP II).

PAMP II is financed by the World Bank. This project continues on the work of a successful project that benefited 43,000 households with increased access to irrigation systems. This supplementary project aims to benefit approximately 770,000 individuals in the 12 districts of the region.

“The civil society organizations work closely with communities to ensure that local population, especially women, are aware of the public employment program and have all the information they need to apply for participation in this program,” Veevers-Carter said. “By providing temporary employment opportunities we are helping rural households not only earn additional income, but also improve access to irrigation so they could get higher crop yields from their land for many years to come.”

The project will increase agricultural resources and allow more people access to banking and financing services.
