Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdinuhamedov met with Kazakhstan President, Nursultan Nazarbayev during his visit to Turkmenistan.

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev visited Turkmenistan last week to meet with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to discuss issues between the two countries and those occurring in the region.

Items of concern for both heads of state at the Dec. 2 meeting included water and energy problems that exist in Central Asia.

Berdimuhamedov said that actions taken by both governments should comply with international law.

The two leaders also discussed energy production. The two nations are considered top producers and extractors of hydrocarbons in the region. Streamlined processes between the two would help to increase output that would help them and the region as a whole.

Another area they discussed was collaboration within the transportation sector. They agreed that increased cooperation in this area would have excellent economic benefits, they also cited their involvement with the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway system as a successful example.

Nazarbayev said his country is also interested in Turkmenistan's international projects involving transit corridors with several countries in the region and the oil pipeline that the country shares with China.
