Laura Tuck expresses World Bank's continued support in Georgia

Laura Tuck:

During a three-day visit to Georgia, World Bank Vice President Laura Tuck said Saturday the bank would continue supporting Georgia.
Tuck met with government leaders, private sector representatives, civil, society and educational representatives and development partners. In her meeting with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, she said the bank's continued support of the government's socio-economic strategy will last through to 2020.
“Increasing access to quality public services is critically important for improving people’s lives,” Tuck said. “We are pleased to be working with the government of Georgia on the reform program, which includes improved health services, preschool education and targeted social assistance. We believe that these reforms will help reduce poverty, especially in rural areas and remote regions, and will ensure that benefits of growth are shared across various groups of the population.”
In further meetings, the importance of increasing Georgia's role as a transit state and improving competitiveness was stressed.
“We have strong collaboration with Georgia and value the government’s commitment to the next generation of structural reforms targeting jobs growth and inclusion,” Tuck said.
She had also discussed the challenges across the spectrum of Georgian society. She also visited development sites supported by the bank in the Kakheti region.
