Kazakh telecommunication grows 16 percent

The Kazakh telecommunications market has increased 16 percent in the past three years, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) said Friday.

The increase to 135.7 billion rubles can be attributed to increased Internet usage in the country. A study conducted by J'son & Partners Consulting said the bulk of spending in telecommunication was taken up by both wired and wireless Internet services.

Twenty-seven percent of users access the internet via wireless means, with 69 percent of Kazakh subscribers using wired connections. The study also reported that 21 percent of users reached connection speeds of 30 megabits per second.
