Armenian committee approves funding for mining, education

Investment programs to fund job creation, educational programs and scholarships were approved by the republic of Armenia on Thursday, according to the Armenian government.

The committee, headed by Hovik Abrahamyan, discussed the approval of many funding projects in the country. An estimated equivalent of $200 million will be made available between the government and several mining and refining companies creating 1,800 jobs in the country. The companies are to process leftover materials from extraction of copper and other minerals.

AMD (Areminian Drams) worth 213.8 million were given to the Ministry of Education and Science for the AYB Educational Foundation. The foundation is in a partnership with the University of Cambridge and the London Institute of Education to create the National Program of Excellence in Education. Around 2,000 international teaching certificates will be issued to Armenian teachers. The teachers will then suggest and be able to improve the education system.

An additional 140 million in AMD will be given to the Armenia Youth Foundation to support scholarships for struggling families and those on the border region.
