Belarus, CIS officials meet

Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei had a working meeting Tuesday with Commonwealth of Independent States Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.

Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei met Tuesday with Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.

The two representatives discussed the hosting of the meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers' Council along with other integration activities that are to take place Thursday and Friday in Minsk.

This meeting has 24 agenda items, including acknowledgement of the 70th anniversary of the "Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War" and a review of the implementation of the CIS' most recent development plan, according to Belarusian News.

This meeting will also cover humanitarian cooperation through 2016, development of the tourism industries and awarding the five higher educational institutions to CIS Base status. There will also be a focus on security within CIS states, with draft efforts to curb illegal migration and counter against human trafficking.
