USAID opens Women's Room in Georgia

United States Agency for International Development

Broadening Horizons, a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project, is opening The Women’s Room on Tuesday at the Ninotsminda Municipality building in Georgia.

The facility will provide information and services to the community in hopes of encouraging the inclusion of women in decision making at the community and municipal level. It will include a library, Internet center and children's corner with opportunities for a variety of community groups, NGOs, private citizens and business representatives to meet.

Started in April by the International Center on Conflict and Negotiation in partnership with Mercy Corps., the Broadening Horizon project's goal is to increase opportunities for females in Georgian society.

It is currently being implemented in 13 municipalities in the Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions. Among its other projects is an Education, Career and Opportunity Fund to support career and educational opportunities for women and girls in the country.
