The first meeting of Ukraine's new Financial Stability Council was held on Monday.
Valeriia
Gontareva, the National Bank of Ukraine's governor, and Ukrainian Minister of Finance Natalie
Jaresko are the council's co-chairwomen. Gontareva presided over
Monday's meeting.
Meetings of this council, established in March, will identify possible external and domestic threats to the economy, including the banking/finance sector, and gauge overall financial stability. Council members include representatives from the NBU, National Financial Services Commission, National Securities and Stock Market Commission, Deposit Guarantee Fund and the Ministry of Finance Office for European Integration.
During this first meeting, key risks to the financial sector were discussed, specifically ones that have arisen from a deteriorating economic situation nationally and those caused from the economic climates of other nations in the region.
The next meeting will take place near the end of July, and further details will be available in advance. Jaresko will preside over that meeting.
