Kyrgyzstan to join Customs Union before year's end

Kyrgyzstan's intention to join the Customs Union before the end of the year was affirmed by President Almazbek Atambayev on Monday during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Atambayev said Kyrgyzstan is actively working to ensure a successful transition to the Customs Union.

"I hope everything will be fine," Atambayev said.

Atambayev said Russia is a "strategic partner" during the meeting, where Putin highlighted the nation's many joint plans, including those in the area of investment and in the energy sector.

Additionally, Putin invited Kyrgyzstan to discuss the numerous joint projects as well as integration processes related to the Customs Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
