Belarus and Moldova are eager to boost bilateral trade and economic ties, according to the Belarus charge d'affaires in Moldova.
Alexander Solovyev made the comment at an event on July 1 marking the 70th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from Nazi occupation, a holiday celebrated as the country's Independence Day, which was organized by the Belarusian Embassy in Chisinau, BelTA reports.
Solovyev said there are strong prospects for increasing trade through industrial cooperation. In 2013, Moldova was Belarus' 15th largest export partner, and bilateral trade reached $350 million. Moldova was ranked fourth in terms of trade turnover with Belarus in the CIS, after Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
Solovyev said there is still far greater potential for bilateral economic ties, adding that he is confident the two sides can further expand their mutual cooperation, according to BelTA.
Belarus accounts for more than 25 percent of Moldova's wine exports, and it is the second largest market for Moldovan fruit and vegetables.
Among those attending the Independence Day gathering were Moldovan government ministers, Chisinau authorities, local business leaders and diplomats from countries including Russia, Ukraine, the U.S., China and Poland, BelTA reports.
