Belarusian-Polish twin towns forum held in Bialystok

Bialystok hosted the second twin towns forum between Belarus and Poland last week.

The country of Belarus is home to 28 towns that have twin-town relations with 40 towns in Poland, BelTA reports.

The meeting provided the two countries with the opportunity to discuss how the partnerships can offer cooperation and development in the areas of housing and utilities, transportation, culture, sports and tourism.

Delegates from Belarus involved in the meeting included top officials and representatives of 19 of the 28 twin towns. Boris Batura, a member of the nation's council and the chairman of the Belarusian twin towns organization, led the meeting, according to BelTA.

It was announced earlier this year that mutual trade between Belarus and Poland had increased by almost 60 percent over the last five years. Poland's main exports to Belarus include farm produce and chemical goods. Belarus exports natural gas, potash fertilizers, oil, timber and mineral fertilizers.
