Abrahamyan welcomes Sokolov for bilateral talks

Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan met with Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov on Monday to discuss Armenian-Russian relations.

The two ministers are the co-chairs of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation. Abrahamyan assured Sokolov and his guests of his willingness to cooperate on bilateral relations.

"I am aware that there is a serious potential build up in the activities of the intergovernmental commission," Abrahamyan said. "We boast significant achievements in this field, and I will do everything to build on the ongoing cooperation."

The intergovernmental commission focuses on allied relations, strategic partnership and economic cooperation between Russia and Armenia.

Sokolov said he highly valued the level of cooperation between Russia and Armenia.

"Bilateral economic cooperation has been developing quite dynamically in recent years, leading to increased trade turnover," Sokolov said.

Sokolov recently visited a new technological unit at the Ararat gold extraction plant in Armenia. He said the commissioning ceremony he attended testifies that the interaction between the two countries is consistently developing in the areas of trade and investment.

The two sides also discussed several issues pertaining to Armenian-Russian relations during the meeting.
