Azerbaijan enters WTO accession discussions

Delegates from Azerbaijan entered discussions with the international community Monday on their country's accession into the World Trade Organization (WTO.)

WTO consultation with Azerbaijan began in 2004, and currently Azerbaijan has been invited to observe WTO meetings. In June 2014, the country held talks with Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Oman and signed protocols related to those countries.

This time the delegation, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev, will participate in discussions with the U.S., Brazil, Japan, Ecuador, the European Union, Sri Lanka, India, Norway, South Korea, Taiwan, Switzerland, Honduras and Canada. According to a report from the U.S.–Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce, the country is also in the process of signing protocols with China and Moldova.

Major discussion topics will be Azerbaijan's goods and services, domestic agriculture support and the country's trade policy.
