Grodno Oblast, Komi Republic to pursue joint woodworking, other ventures

Grodno Oblast and Komi Republic to pursue cooperation in woodworking ventures.

Officials from the Grodno Oblast in Belarus and the Komi Republic of Russia entered an agreement last week to increase cooperative measures between the two regions.

Both regions will set up joint processing facilities for woodworking, while other projects will include food production, construction material manufacturing, farm equipment manufacturing and logistics.

"Our region intends to strengthen and enhance the cooperation with the Republic of Belarus which has waned in recent years," Komi Deputy Chairman Elman Khudazarov said. "We are set to develop a joint action plan with Belarus in general and Grodno Oblast in particular because the region is most interesting for us.”

For the maximum potential of the cooperative measures to be realized, Khudazarov said business contacts should be sought out by both regional governments.

The delegation from the Komi also visited the Grodoinvest Free Economic Zone, and the Grodno Oblast officials were invited to visit Komi this month.
