Samsung opens R&D center in Turkey

In partnership with local technology company Semper-Tech, Samsung Electronics opened a research and development center in Turkey, the Turkish American Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported Friday.

“As we consider Turkey a key country among our global markets, Samsung’s commitment here involves learning from this dynamic nation with a young, skilled, and well-educated population," president of Samsung Electronics Turkey Yoonie Joung said. "Those are the main reasons behind our decision to choose Turkey to host one of our R&D centers."

The facility will focus on developing wireless technology, with health and education industries being a particular research focus.

Samsung has research and development centers in over 17 countries. The electronics company spent approximately $13.5 billion in research and development efforts in 2014, making it a leader in the sector.

The center's opening was attended by Joung; Turkish Vice Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Davut Kavranoglu; and South Korea's ambassador to Turkey Yunsoo Cho.
