Four students win BasisBank's Pascal Award scholarships

BasisBank of Georgia awarded four students from Ilia State University the Pascal Award, the bank said Friday.

The awards ceremony took place Dec. 21, with each student awarded $1,494 in scholarship money. Winners consisted of students in scientific departments who have had their research published in an international, peer-reviewed journal within the Thompson Reuters database.

The university said the award is meant to reward and encourage its students that take part in the process of research and get it published. The award description said there is no limit on how many awards are given annually.

The bank said that one of its priorities is the support of education and university students in particular. Along with funding the Pascal Award, the bank also supports scholarships that allow students to attend conferences while still in college.

The award is named after the French mathematician, religious philosopher and physicist Blaise Pascal, who was considered a child prodigy during the 17th century.
