Belarus, Azerbaijan to open talks on satellite collaboration

Representatives from the Ministry of Communication and High Technologies of Azerbaijan said Friday that discussions would be opening up between Belarus and Azerbaijan in pursuit of collaboration on satellite communication.

The two countries are considering the possibilities of low-orbit satellites to be used for joint scientific research.

This collaborative measure will be discussed at the next intergovernmental commission meeting scheduled to be held early in 2015 in Minsk.

Ministers from both countries will meet to explore additional areas within the high technology sphere for collaborative possibilities.

Azerbaijan and Belarus previously reached an agreement on using data from the Belarusian satellite BKA.

The International Telecommunication Union had suggested recently that Azerbaijan should have three additional satellites to strengthen the country's communication services and ensure service in case the current satellite were to malfunction.
