Moldova Prime Minister Iurie Leanca urges more women to open businesses

Moldova Prime Minister Iurie Leanca urged women to open businesses during a recent event dedicated to the Women in Business Program of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

About 90 enterprises in Moldova, either owned or led by women, received assistance from the program over the last three years. The initiative provides consulting services with the goal of helping women launch their own businesses.

Leanca said women's experiences contributed to a higher living standard in Moldova.

Leanca also said businesses that have women who are managers tend to have more openness, which helps drive innovation and interest to overcome issues.

Head of the EBRD Chisianau office Julia Otto said the Women in Business Program has made progress thanks to support from the Moldovan government. Otto said the program would continue its efforts to help women in business contribute to the Moldovan economy.
