Kazakhstan seeks joint ventures with Belarus

During a press conference to celebrate Kazakhstan's Independence Day on Tuesday, Ambassador Estraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus Yergali Bulegenov announced Kazakhstan's eagerness to set up joint ventures between the two countries.

According to Bulegenov, there is a need for a balance as to where joint ventures are located. He states that 90 percent of current ventures are located within Kazakhstan.

“We plan to attract Kazakh companies to Belarus. Our businessmen are thinking about it for now. But I believe that joint ventures will appear in Belarus in conditions of the Eurasian Economic Union in the medium term,” Bulegenov said.

He also indicated willingness to sell to markets outside of both countries. Overall trade relations between Belarus and Kazakhstan are positive and seeing increases. According to Bulegenov, the two nations are at a peak in terms of positive economic and political relations.

"[Because] we will actually start working in conditions of the Eurasian Economic Union as [of Jan. 1, 2015], new opportunities will emerge, including opportunities for the development of the bilateral relations," Bulegenov said.
