Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) representatives on Monday to resolve food and energy issues.

The SCO consists of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Nazarbayev said this collective has the opportunity to help resolve these issues among member states.

“The organization works, first of all, for the sake of stability and to prevent territorial disputes between us, as well as to combat the three evils of modern times -- separatism, extremism and terrorism,” Nazarbayev said.

The president said Kazakhstan would support the creation of a development bank for SCO members to nurture development activities on an intergovernmental basis.

Nazarbayev said increased developments in infrastructure were essential to the economic future of the region, and he cited Kazakh policy.

“Our country has launched a new economic policy, ‘Nurly Zhol -- Path to the Future,’ which envisages state investments aimed at infrastructure development,” Nazarbayev said.
