Armenian PM: Economic, human rights intertwined

Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan addressed attendees of an economic rights conference Wednesday in Yerevan.

Attendees included public officials, representatives from human-rights organizations and ambassadors. He said economic rights are human rights and make up an integral part of the formation of civilization.

“The history of mankind and nations evidences that the commitment to property rights and social justice had been mentioned long before the human rights in international documents and national constitutions," Abrahamyan said. "The idea of human rights is far more comprehensive today, and the social development standards are not limited to the surface of ideology of property. It is perceived as a more profound principle and as the pledge for ensuring fundamental freedoms, economic and social justice.”

He said his government is making every effort to ensure decent living conditions for citizens. He also stressed the importance of building development and self-expressive opportunities for individuals, and that increased international economic relations can help the government meet this goal.
