Belarus-Czech venture considers setting up logging company

A joint venture of Belarus and the Czech Republic is considering the possibility of setting up a logging company in Krupki beginning in 2015, Krupki Forestry Director Nikolai Usenya said on Wednesday.

Lesina is a logging operations provider co-founded by the Belarus Krupki Forestry and Balounek Trade s.r.o.

Usenya said the joint venture would offer stockpiling services of timber to state-run and private enterprises within Belarus.

“The most important thing for us was to separate logging from forestry and silvicultural services," Usenya said. "The operation of the company that is focused on logging operations yields certain advantages. Thus, logging operations that once have been part of the Krupki Forestry duties, including the need to search for spare parts, have been partially handed over to the joint venture that can do this work more quickly and qualitatively."

Logging stockpiles in the Krupki Forestry amounted to 158,000 cubic meters worth of timber. The stockpiles could reach 175,000 cubic meters by the end of the year.
