The U.S.-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce said Monday that Emerson Process Management was awarded a $40 million contract from BP to act as the main automation contractor for the Shah Deniz Stage 2 development project.
Specifically they are to focus on Azerbaijan's portion of the project along the Caspian Sea. The company will implement control and safety systems to aid in the extraction of natural gas in the area.
With Emerson as a partner, BP has streamlined the process of the project.
"This contract is a testament to Emerson's experience in deepwater offshore oil and gas applications and to the quality of our work providing similar technology for BP's nearby Chirag Oil Project," Emerson Process Management President Steve Sonnenberg said. "This latest large-scale project continues the long-standing and trusting relationship that exists between our companies."
Emerson's Delta V system, created in partnership with BP and their engineering contractor, will monitor and handle emergency shutdowns should the need arise.
