World Bank vice president visits Azerbaijan

World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Laura Tuck visited Azerbaijan on Tuesday and Wednesday to meet with officials in the country and discuss how to improve economic development.

She said the great strides the country had taken over the past 10 years further cements the long-term partnership between the two entities. It is the hope of the World Bank to enrich the lives of citizens in countries it helps finance. In the meetings, the location of new economic drivers were indicated in the resource-rich country. The officials also agreed that despite the improvements made to the business climate and infrastructure, there is more that still needs to be done.

During her visit, Tuck visited many of the projects supported by the World Bank, including an integrated solid waste management project and ASAN, a center dedicated to help citizens and businesses with legal matters. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Rural Investment Project. Tuck was able to see the communal impact of the bank's work.

“It’s inspiring to see how the project has not only helped to improve infrastructure, but also empowered rural communities to participate in making decisions and implementing projects that are important to their livelihoods,” Tuck said.
