Russia, China expected to sign gas agreement

An intergovernmental gas supply line agreement is expected to be signed by the Russian and Chinese governments, the Eurasian Development Bank said Monday.

Gas supplier Gazprom would be supplying gas supply through an eastern route.

“Interested authorities of Russia and China within the last few months have been holding regular consultations on an intergovernmental treaty on energy sector cooperation, including natural gas supplies via the eastern route," Alexei Gruzdev, Russia's trade representative to China, said. "I expect that the parties will manage to get to the stage of signing of the document during the 19th regular meeting of the governments’ heads.” That meeting was slated for Monday in Moscow.

Gazprom had signed a 30-year contract with China National Petroleum Corp. equaling $400 billion on gas supply.
