BP, ShawCor sign $200 million coating deal

The U.S.-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce announced that ShawCor has won a second contract from BP Exploration Limited, the company behind the Shah Deniz oil extraction project.

ShawCor's Bredero Shaw pipe coating division will apply a coating designed to prevent corrosion and weight damage to pipes. The Caspian Pipe Coatings (CPC) plant in Baku will also see upgrades so it can meet program requirements. The $200 million contract will begin in 2015. Contracts relating to the Shah Deniz Stage 2 project, Bredero Shaw and South Caucasus Pipeline projects total more than $500 million.

The Shah Deniz Stage 2 is a full field development that is expected to add up to 16 billion cubic meters per year of natural gas in Azerbaijan. The Shah Deniz's first project currently produces and extracts nine billion cubic meters per year. The aim of both projects is to cement energy security throughout Europe and, according to BP, it will bring Caspian natural gas to European markets.
