Azerbaijan to expand international transport systems

Expanded international transportation measures will be sought out by Azerbaijan's government in the next few years, the U.S. - Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce said on Tuesday.

Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev wrote a message for the participants of the "Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line - new opportunities in the development of the Silk Road" international conference outlining plans to develop international transport systems. The rail line is slated to be commissioned in 2015.

"This railway junction is effective from an economic point of view, stable, secure and fully complies with environmental standards," Aliyev said. "It means the beginning of a new stage in the transport development. This railway line will expand the multi-modal transportation opportunities and ensure the growth of passenger and freight transportation."

A newly developed ferry terminal is at work at the Baku Sea Port. The terminal is also slated to be commissioned in 2015.
